How it started

Founders

ALPFA at JMU began with a simple conviction: that Latino students here deserve a room where ambition feels normal — where a first-generation student can practice a pitch, trade an internship lead, and never have to choose between where they come from and where they are going.

David Gutierrez and Rene Ayala founded the chapter to build that room. The mission has not changed since day one: bring Latinos together, turn those connections into a network that outlasts graduation, and build the professional skills to walk into any room and belong. And it does not end at our own doors — every résumé sharpened and every door opened flows back into the community that raised us.
