We, the members of the Association of Latino Professionals For America at James Madison University, establish this constitution to advance the professional development, leadership, and unity of our members, and to build lasting pathways for career success within a diverse and evolving community.

Name
The name of this organization shall be the Association of Latino Professionals For America at James Madison University, hereafter referred to as "ALPFA at JMU" or "the chapter." The chapter operates as a recognized student organization affiliated with ALPFA, Inc., the national organization.
Purpose
The purpose of the chapter is to empower students with the professional development, leadership skills, and networking opportunities needed to succeed in a diverse workforce. The chapter pursues this mission by hosting workshops, connecting members with employers and mentors, fostering community, and promoting the values of the national organization.
The chapter is committed to serving all students regardless of major or background who share an interest in professional growth and an inclusive community.
Membership
Membership is open to all currently enrolled James Madison University students in good standing, without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status.
Active members are those who maintain participation as defined by the executive board, including attendance and engagement requirements. Voting rights are reserved for active members as outlined in the chapter bylaws.
Officers
The executive board shall consist of officers including, but not limited to, the President, Vice President(s), Secretary, and appointed chairs responsible for outreach, marketing, fundraising, and external relations. A faculty or staff advisor supports the board in an advisory capacity.
Officers shall be elected by the active membership for a term of one academic year. Duties of each office, the election process, and procedures for filling vacancies shall be defined in the chapter bylaws.
Meetings
General body meetings shall be held regularly throughout the academic year at times determined by the executive board. The executive board shall meet as needed to conduct the business of the chapter. Notice of meetings shall be communicated to members through official channels, including university email and chapter social media.
Amendments
This constitution may be amended by a vote of the active membership as specified in the bylaws, typically requiring a two-thirds majority. Proposed amendments shall be presented to members in advance of the vote. Amendments take effect upon ratification and any required approval from the university and the national organization.
Non-Discrimination
The chapter shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law or university policy. The chapter operates in compliance with all James Madison University policies governing student organizations.
